Abstract: The UBC department of physics and astronomy and affiliate institutions have a number of exciting research topics that are actively recruiting students. This jamboree event will highlight six diverse research projects seeking students from the PHAS department.
If you’re an incoming PHAS graduate student looking for a project and/or supervisor, we hope this event will help make some great matches. If you’re thinking about graduate school, the jamboree will give you an idea of what you might expect when thinking about choosing a lab to join. Other attendees will get a flavour of the broad research happening in our department through six short talks. All are very welcome!
Six speakers:
Nicole Vassh (TRIUMF): Heavy Element Origins and Neutrino Astrophysics
Steve Plotkin: Exploring the Frontiers of Experimental and Theoretical Biophysics
Sabrina Leslie: Single-molecule biophysics applied to biology and therapeutics development: the next level of resolution
Mike Hasinoff and Kate Pachal (TRIUMF): DarkLight at TRIUMF/ARIEL -- a search for new physics in e+e- final states with an invariant mass between 10-20 MeV
Chris Hearty: Searching for new physics with the Belle II experiment
Josh Folk: Quantum Electronics for Investigating Condensed Matter Questions
Plus a 2 minute lightning talk by Scott Chapman on the CCATprime telescope
