Semenoff appointed Officer of the Order of Canada
July 31, 2012
Congratulations to PHAS Professor Dr. Gordon Semenoff for being named one of the Officers of the Order of Canada this year. Gordon has been a professor at UBC since 1990. His research interests have been in superstring theory and duality of string theories with strongly coupled gauge field theories and in quantum gravity. He is noted for his co-invention of the parity anomaly in odd-dimensional gauge field theories and his pioneering work on graphene.
Gordon was recently awarded the 2012 CAP Medal for Lifetime Achievement in Physics for his seminal contributions to quantum field theory, statistical mechanics and condensed matter physics.
