PHAS Physics Educators Sweep up 2023 Staff Awards
We celebrate this year’s PHAS Staff award winners, Adele Ruosi and Mike Han for their numerous contributions to the Department in student support, Physics curriculum development and education.
Awarded annually at the PHAS Holiday lunch party, Department staff service awards are awarded to those who have contributed greatly towards the Department in the areas of service, administration and leadership.
Since Adele Ruosi’s start at PHAS five years ago, she has taken the helm of various projects (PHAS Library), programs (Launchpad), course/curriculum development (overseeing Physics course content updates), as well as assisting faculty and staff understand and combat bias in the Graduate application process. A physics educator, Adele has led workshops on new technologies and EDI education, to better engage faculty, staff and students with UBC resources, skills and learning opportunities.
Mike Han started five years ago as a welcome addition to our PHAS educators, running the e-lab course: PCB DESIGN AND PROTOTYPING for students learning basic electronics and circuits. Mike’s dedication to students is reflected in the high enrolments in his popular classes, which are run regularly throughout the year.
