STEWART BLUSSON QUANTUM MATTER INSTITUTE CALL FOR SCIENTIFIC AND TECHNICAL STAFF
UBC’s Stewart Blusson Quantum Matter Institute (SBQMI) is a world leading institute pushing the boundaries of quantum materials research to inspire fundamentally new technologies and archetype devices.
SBQMI recently received a major grant that has enabled it to accelerate the pace, efficiency, and impact of cross-disciplinary research in this domain. We are actively expanding our team of scientific and technical staff to support our research activities and leverage the potential of our new facilities and improved infrastructure enabled by this grant.
Successful candidates will thrive in our collegial culture, where teams of experimentalists and theorists from physics, chemistry, and applied science focus in the research areas of:
- Correlated electron materials
- Topological materials
- Supramolecular material
- Nanoscale structures and devices
SBQMI believes in the power of collaboration to fuel the search for creative solutions and, in addition to building a strong interdisciplinary team, has established thriving partnerships with TRIUMF, the Canadian Light Source, the Max Planck Society, and many other world leading institutions. We are seeking to fill the following, continued SBQMI staff positions:
- Staff Scientists - with a Ph.D. (or equivalent) and strong record of achievement at the top of their field, in an area relevant to the research pursuits of SBQMI. Research Engineers - with a PhD (or equivalent combination of degree and experience) and experience working in a research and/or research and development environment in an area relevant to the research pursuits of SBQMI.
- Engineering Technicians - with strong technical skills to enhance and complement our existing strengths.
Skills of particular interest to SBQMI include:
- Process engineering, nanofabrication
- Ultra high vacuum – mechanical
- Electron and X-ray spectroscopy
- Transmission electron microscopy
- Scanning tunneling microscopy
- Novel device development
- Laser and optical spectroscopy
- Chemical synthesis, crystal growth, molecular beam epitaxy
- Materials characterization, transport measurements
- Theory and modelling of quantum matter and devices
If you are interested in this exciting opportunity to push the boundaries of knowledge and create world changing devices, send your CV, with a covering letter to tss@qmi.ubc.ca. In your cover letter please identify:
- Which of the above SBQMI research areas are of interest to you;
- Which of the skills listed above are your area(s) of expertise.
- Review of submissions will begin in mid October 2016. For more information about SBQMI: www.qmi.ubc.ca. For more information about Vancouver: see TourismVancouver
