Lecturer in Physics Education (Comp #2012-02)

The Department of Physics and Astronomy at the University of British Columbia is recruiting qualified applicants for a Lecturer position that includes participation in the department’s Education Research program. The main teaching duties in this position will include teaching in our first year courses and laboratory supervision in our senior laboratory courses. In addition, there are two major projects that the successful applicant will be taking part in. The first is to take part in a new distance learning initiative in the department. The second is to play a leadership role in the team of postdoctoral fellows and research associates who are funded by the Carl Wieman Science education Initiative to develop evidence-based teaching methods and materials for our course delivery.

The expected Initial 12-month term of employment is renewable based on performance and availability of funding. Applicants must articulate their interest in physics and/or astronomy education research in their application, and a Ph,D, in Physics or Astronomy is expected. Familiarity with Information Technology (web-based data systems) is essential, as is experience with contemporary pedagogical methods such as peer teaching. This position will be available as of May 1, 2012 and the salary will be commensurate with experience.
