Postdoctoral Researcher – Particle Physics / Rare Decay


The University of British Columbia’s Department of Physics and Astronomy and TRIUMF are seeking applications from recent particle physics graduates interested in a Postdoctoral position with the Rare Decay Group at TRIUMF. TRIUMF is Canada's particle accelerator centre, and one of the world's leading laboratories for particle and nuclear physics and accelerator-based science. TRIUMF is an international centre for discovery and innovation, advancing fundamental, applied, and interdisciplinary research for science, medicine, and business.

As the successful applicant, you will have an opportunity to participate in research related to studies of rare kaon and pion decays and searches for dark matter with the CERN NA62 experiment and the PIONEER experiment at the Paul Scherrer Institut.
 

Responsibilities

• Data collection including shift-taking at CERN and PSI
• Data analysis and simulation
• Technical instrument development
• Preparation of reports
• Presentation of results
• Detector and experiment development
• Administration of local and external computing facilities
 

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:

Knowledge of data analysis techniques, machine learning, C++ and Python software, and
detection techniques, particularly scintillators and Si detectors, used in particle physics.
 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:

Recent Ph.D in particle physics (within 5 years). Expert knowledge of particle and or nuclear
physics, data analysis techniques, software, and detectors used in particle physics.

Length of position: intended to be a 2-year term
Work Hours: 35 hours per week

Salary Information: $55,000 - 70,000
