Use the following instructions if you are running a CUPS server on your computer. You normally would run a local CUPS server only if you have a locally attached printer. If you are only connecting to a remote printer server (such as print.phas.ubc.ca) then you only need a CUPS "client-only" setup.

  1. Go to http://localhost:631/admin in any browser
  2. Click on the "Add Printer" under the "Printers" heading
  3. Choose "LPD/LPR Host or Printer", then click "Continue"
  4. On Connection page, enter: lpd://print.phas.ubc.ca/lp (or substitute the name of the desired print queue for lp), then click Continue.
  5. Enter Name, Description, Location of the printer you intend to add, and then click Continue (don't check the share this printer option)
  6. Select the Make of the printer, then click Continue (this will be Xerox in the case of lp).
  7. Select the printer model or provide with the location of the printer model's ppd file,  then click Add Printer ("Xerox ColorQube 8870DN" for lp).
