Use the following instructions if you are running a CUPS server on your computer. You normally would run a local CUPS server only if you have a locally attached printer. If you are only connecting to a remote printer server (such as print.phas.ubc.ca) then you only need a CUPS "client-only" setup.
- Go to http://localhost:631/admin in any browser
- Click on the "Add Printer" under the "Printers" heading
- Choose "LPD/LPR Host or Printer", then click "Continue"
- On Connection page, enter: lpd://print.phas.ubc.ca/lp (or substitute the name of the desired print queue for lp), then click Continue.
- Enter Name, Description, Location of the printer you intend to add, and then click Continue (don't check the share this printer option)
- Select the Make of the printer, then click Continue (this will be Xerox in the case of lp).
- Select the printer model or provide with the location of the printer model's ppd file, then click Add Printer ("Xerox ColorQube 8870DN" for lp).
