FundingSeveral external organizations can fund your research here at UBC depending on who you are. Some of these opportunities would fund a portion of your stipend and would require me to augment their contribution. Others fund the entire stipend and maybe even provide a research fund. Postdoctoral SupportThese are more or less standard postdoctoral awards, but they have some restrictions on who can apply.NATO Science FellowshipsCanada offers NATO Advanced Fellowships to recent doctoral recipients from a limited list of countries (essentially former members of the Eastern bloc). You can check out the list at the link above and get additional information there. You essentially apply using a generic NSERC fellowship application (i.e. Form 200) through your proposed supervisor. These last up to 2 years.NSERC Postdoctoral FellowshipsIf you are a Canadian citizen or permanent resident, you can apply for this fellowship directly with NSERC. These last up to 2 years.Canadian Space Agency Postdoctoral Fellowship SupplementsRecipients of NSERC PDFs may apply for a substantial supplement from the CSA. They can apply through the CSA website.NSF International Research Fellowship Program (IRFP)If you are a U.S. citizen or permanent resident, you can apply for this fellowship directly with the NSF. These last up to 3 years.Killam Postdoctoral FellowshipsThese fellowships are open to people who have recently earned their doctorates, regardless of citizenship. The doctoral degree must not be from UBC. You can also check out the Killam PDF site at UBC.Cost-Shared Postdoctoral OpportunitiesWith these postdoctoral scholarship the financial support is shared between the supervisor and the sponsoring institution.CITA National FellowshipsCITA offers several National Fellowships tenable at institutions throughout Canada. Eligibility is not restricted by citizenship. Both CITA and your supervisor would share the cost of your support. Your potential supervisor must nominate your application to this CITA program.PIMS Postdoctoral FellowshipsPIMS supports up to 20 fellowships tenable at any of its Canadian member universities, including UBC. The maximum length of a PIMS Postdoctoral Fellowship is 2 years. Eligibility is not restricted by citizenship. Your potential supervisor must nominate your application to this PIMS program, and your support is shared between PIMS and your supervisor.Postgraduate StudyNSERC Postgraduate ScholarshipsIf you are a Canadian citizen or permanent resident, you can apply for this scholarship directly with NSERC or through the university where you are doing graduate study.Canada Graduate ScholarshipThese are similar to the NSERC PGSs but are a bit more generous for the Master's level and a lot more generous at the Ph.D. level. If you are a Canadian citizen or permanent resident, you can apply for this scholarship directly with NSERC or through the university where you are doing graduate study.Canadian Space Agency Postgraduate Fellowship SupplementsRecipients of NSERC PGSs and CGSs may be apply for a substantial supplement from the CSA. They can apply through the CSA website.Commonwealth ScholarshipThis scholarship for graduate studies is for citizens of other Commonwealth countries who are normally resident in any part of the Commonwealth other than Canada. Check out the website for more information.UBC Graduate AwardsUBC administers several merit-based graduate awards. Most have no restriction on the nationality of the holder. Check out the website for more details.Fulbright FellowshipsThe Fulbright program sponsored by the U.S. Department of State supports short-term (generally one year or less) study abroad, including Canada.
