Selena Lam
Systems Engineer
Kodak Graphic Communications

Selena chose the field of science and engineering from a love of understanding why things behave the way they do, and since then has taken advantage of the flexibility that an engineering background provides. Her formal education includes a BASc in engineering physics from UBC, and a MASc in semiconductor engineering from SFU. At different times in her non-linear career she has:

- Worked in research and development for a venture-funded company seeking to commercialize research in photonic crystals;
- Been involved in the very early stages of starting a business;
- Volunteered and worked contracts in international development in Cambodia, Sri Lanka, and India, supporting technology transfer for local production of low-cost silver-impregnated ceramic water filters through local NGOs and the Red Cross;
- Joined a large multinational company in product development and troubleshooting.

Selena wrestles regularly with the question of how science and technology can best be harnessed to better the world's overall condition, and plans to continue exploring this direction. She is a dedicated commuter cyclist and has volunteered for many years with the Girl Guides of Canada. She is currently on parental leave with her son, born March 2008.
