Two-Dimensional High-Tc Superconductivity in Monolayer Cuprates and Beyond
Event Start:

Event End:

Event Information:
Copper oxide high-temperature superconductors share a layered structure, raising the question of whether superconductivity can emerge in an isolated monolayer. We investigate the electronic structure of monolayer Bi-2212 and Bi-2201, demonstrating through STM/STS that the full suite of bulk phases—including high-Tc superconductivity, pseudogap, and charge order—persists in the extreme 2D limit. These results indicate that superconductivity in these materials is essentially a two-dimensional phenomenon.
