Internal Search for Physics and Astronomy Department Head
The Faculty of Science at the University of British Columbia is seeking applications for the position of Head of the Department of Physics & Astronomy. The Department is committed to excellence in research and education in physics and astronomy, and plays a key role in a range of interdisciplinary programs at UBC and beyond. We are seeking a dynamic individual with a well-established research profile, a strong commitment to building and supporting excellent educational experiences at both the undergraduate and graduate levels. This candidate will have a commitment to strengthening departmental research, and providing an inspiring vision for the future of the Physics & Astronomy Department at UBC. This candidate will have demonstrated leadership abilities, including management, organizational, communication, and consensus building skills, as well as the ability to foster a strong and inclusive departmental community. The successful candidate will be responsible for the overall academic and non-academic leadership of the Department, and will be a strong advocate for the Department within the University and in the national and international arenas.
The position is for a five-year term and will be available beginning January 1, 2024. The successful candidate must hold a tenured professorial position at the University of British Columbia, with strong preference being given to a faculty member at the rank of Professor.
